The records date from 1953-1991 and largely consist of church buildings located in the Midwestern states of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Illinois. Other states represented include Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Nebraska, Maine, Maryland, West Virginia, and Iowa. A few drawings of residential and commercial buildings are also present. Many of the drawing sets date from the 1970s and include only the sheets that Damon worked on. Most of the design records are preliminary design drawings and working drawings. Generally, these are blue-line prints but a few are original pencil drawn on tracing paper.

Biographical Note

Richard Hart Damon (1920-2000) was born in Richfield, Ohio, to parents Verner L. Damon and Mary E. (Hart) Damon. In 1942, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from Fenn College (which later became Cleveland State University). In 1942, Richard Hart Damon served in the Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1945.

He practiced as a design engineer for Industrial Construction Company, Inc., Cleveland, Ohio. He also practiced as a professional engineer for several firms including the Evangelical Church Building Corporation, South Bend, IN; Church Growth Services, South Bend, IN; PACE Design, Elkhart, IN; and the Troyer Group, Mishawaka, IN.
