Biographical Note / Historical Note / Administrative History

John Beekman is currently the Lincoln National Corporation Distinguished Professor of Actuarial Science Emeritus within the department of Mathematical Sciences. Professor Beekman began working at Ball State in 1963 as an assistant professor of Mathematics. Prior to working for Ball State he had served as a professor and instructor with the University of Minnesota and the University of Iowa.

Much of Professor Beekman's work has been involved in stochastic processes and actuarial science which applies mathematics and statistics to risk assesment in insurance and financial sectors. In addition to his work in academia, he has also performed consulting work with Dow Chemical Company's Pharaceutical Division and Lincoln National Life Insurance Company as well as many other professional organizations.
