Biographical Note / Historical Note / Administrative History
George Wolfe served on the faculty of the Ball State University School of Music from 1982 to 2014, teaching applied saxophone, instructing chamber music ensembles. During his time at Ball State, he has been awarded the Robert O. Foster Faculty Award for support of diversity and multicultural programs, and the Ball State University Faculty Outstanding Creative Endeavor Award. In addition, from 2002-2006, Wolfe served as Director of the Ball State University Center for Peace and Conflict Studies.
Wolfe, a renowned saxophonist, has toured internationally and has appeared as a soloist with numerous ensembles, including the United States Navy Band, the Saskatoon Symphony and the World Band at Disney World. He has been a featured soloist on six volumes of a compact disc series America's Millennium Tribute to Adolphe Sax. In 1997, Ball State University awarded Dr. Wolfe its Outstanding Creative Endeavor for his CD on music and cosmology entitled Lifting the Veil. In addition to saxophone performance, Wolfe researches in the areas of mediation, nonviolence, and peace studies and has served as a guest lecturer at the Chautauqua Institute in Chautauqua, N.Y.
