Biographical / Historical
Fred Rickard Ehnes (1943-2009) was an alumnus of Ball State and joined the School of Music's faculty in 1971. He taught in the horn studio for 38 years before retiring in 2008. During his time at Ball State he was active in multiple School of Music performances, including playing in the faculty Musical Arts and DaCamera quintets. Ehnes was also active in directing the student French Horn Ensemble for over thirty years. In the wider community, he served as a founding member and principal horn player of the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra in addition to working extensively with the Muncie Symphony and Marion Philharmonic Orchestras. Ehnes was also a successful studio musician, playing on sessions for Pavarotti, Marvin Gaye, and the Moody Blues.
