Biographical Note

Marie Fraser was born in Michigan and resided there until her preteen years. In 1936, she moved to Muncie, Indiana. Fraser enrolled at Ball State University in the fall of 1941, and graduated in 1944 with a Bachelor of Social Science degree. In 1945, Fraser served as the editor for the campus newspaper, which was then a weekly publication called Ball State News. In 1948, she went to the University of Wisconsin to get her master’s degree in journalism. Fraser taught for seven years at Southport High School in Indianapolis. At the same time she worked for the Indianapolis News at the copy desk. Later she became a special correspondent and among other important events covered the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in England. After teaching she also became a full-time editor for the Indiana Teaching Magazine. Fraser joined the Ball State University faculty in 1960, serving as the Director of Public Information Services for twenty-six years under six university presidents. She retired on June 30, 1987.
