Biographical Note / Historical Note / Administrative History

The Divison of Student Affairs' at the Ball State Teachers College began in order to reflect the increased enrollment and expanded student activites that occured during the 1940's. The first offices the Division of Student Affairs oversaw in its beginning in 1946 included Women's Activities, Registrar, Recorder, Placement, Publications, Residence Halls, and Men's Activities. As the student enrollment has diversified and changed, the division has expaned beyond the first offices to include multicultural student groups, Greek life, and student programs. Throughout the 1970's and 1980's, the Division of Student Affairs sought to meet the needs of the changing student body by offering religious counseling, residence hall activities, and disability services.

Today, the Divison of Student Affairs focuses on helping students embrace educational opportunities and provides student-centered programs and services. The goals of the Division of Student Affairs today include promoting cultural includsion, providing a safe campus, and offering counseling services through the Multicultural Center, Office of Victim Services, and the Counseling Center as well as many other offices.
