Biographical / Historical

The Natural Resources Program was established in 1967 with the implementation of a departmental minor. In 1970, the Board of Trustees approved the Natural Resources Institute and graduate degrees in Natural Resources were offered. Through the work of Dr. Clyde W. Hibbs and the Natural Resources Advisory Committee, the Department of Natural Resources was established and became operational in June 1973. The department later became known as the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM), and its curriculum promoted student interest in the conservation of natural resources and environmental quality. In 2018, NREM merged with several other programs on campus to become the Department of Environment, Geology, and Natural Resources.
