Scope and Contents
This collection contains a wide range of materials from the career of Dr. Marilyn Buck at Ball State University. The first series contains information from 1989 to 2009, and includes Buck's work on a physical educator oral history project. Also in this series is Buck's publication work, including writing, research, and correspondence with academic journals on her essay about Barbara Forker. The second series contains information from Buck's work on the Muncie Community Schools initiative, mostly dating from 2018 to 2019.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Marilyn Buck has served as a public school teacher and professor and senior admininistrative official at Ball State University. Buck earned her Bachelor's degree from Iowa State University. For her postgraduate education, she received her Master's degree from the University of Utah and her doctorate degree from Brigham Young University. After graduating from BYU in 1989, she became an assitant professor of physical education at the Ball State University School of Physical Education, now known as the School of Kinesiology. Buck worked for Ball State University for 30 years, starting in 1989 and ending in June of 2019. During her long career at Ball State, Buck served in a number of important faculty roles. In addition to being a professor, Buck has served as the assitant to the chair and associate chair of the School of Physical Education. She was also the vice chairperson and chairperson of the University Senate, associate provost and dean of the University College. She was the interim provost from 2016 to 2018. One of her most important roles, served before her retirement, was her work as the Ball State University Liaison to Muncie Community Schools after the school corporation's leadership was given to Ball State University after the passage and signing of Indiana House Bill 1315. The bill was passed and enacted, giving the university control of the school corporation on July 1, 2018. Buck's retirement from Ball State University on June 30, 2019 marked a celebrated close to a long and productive career with the institution.
