Biographical / Historical

Previously part of the Science Department, Geography and Geology became its own department shortly after Ball State Teachers College made the transition to Ball State University in 1965. On October 1, 1981, Geology split from Geography, creating two separate departments: Department of Geology and Department of Geography. Geography currently remains its own department, offering programs in Human Geography, Travel and Tourism, Geographic Information Science (GIS), and Meteorology. During the Summer of 2021, the Board of Trustees approved a name change request to the Department of Geography and Meteorology.
