The United States of America celebrated the Bicentennial of the American Revolution throughout the entire year of 1976. Preparation for the event began as early as 1974. The Congress mandated the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration to:
"...prepare the master calendar of events of local, state, national, and international significance which will take place between March 1975 and December 1976…the Administrator shall provide for the bicentennial master calendar or register of programs and projects, and in other ways provide for the bicentennial master calendar or register of programs and projects, and in other ways provide a central clearinghouse for information and coordination..." (Public Law 93-179)
Throughout the entire country, Bicentennial Committees were formed to plan, schedule and coordinate events that would mark and celebrate this national holiday.
