Muncie Historic Preservation and Rehabilitation Officer records
Scope and Contents
The collection includes newspaper clippings, reports, proposals, notes, meeting agendas, and correspondence from the Muncie Preservation and Rehabilitation Commission and the business it conducted, including the renovation and relocation of historic buildings. The records of specific initiatives the Commission has participated in are also included, including the efforts to renovate the Ball Stores Building in downtown Muncie as a City Hall, and the implementation and business of the Central City Task Force (1987-1990), the Walnut Concept Committee (1990-1991), facade restoration efforts and Preserve America Community Application (2008). Photographs documenting Commission activities and historic properties are included in P 181.

Administrative History
The Muncie Historic Preservation and Rehabilitation Commission was established in 1976 under the leadership of the late Althea Stoeckel, a faculty member from the Ball State University Department of History. The business of the Commission ranges from applying for the admittance of Delaware County buildings into the National Register to proposing plans for renovation or possible restoration of city landmarks.

Custodial History
This collection was received by Archives and Special Collections as a donation from Gretchen Cheesman on 2005/10/01. The records were originally accessioned and processed as the Muncie Historic Preservation Officer Records. Additions were received on 2002/03/15, 2005/01/28, and 2009/03/09 from Gretchen Cheesman and William Morgan.
