Scope and Contents
This collection includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, articles, notes, student field trip reports, photographic materials, blueprints, and other materials from Edward Zetterberg and his family in Muncie, Indiana ranging from 1918 to 2004 regarding Zetterberg's teaching career, his service during World War I and World War II, and Zetterberg's personal interests.

Biographical Note
Edward Zetterberg was born in 1898 in Harris City, Indiana, and attended Indiana State Normal School in Terre Haute, Indiana. He served in the Navy Reserves in World War I, after which he returned to Terre Haute and graduated in 1922. During World War II, he served with the Indiana Civilian Defense Auxiliary Fireman Corporation, and the Selective Service System Registration Advisory Board. Zetterberg taught chemistry at Muncie Central High School from 1927 to 1954. While a teacher at Muncie Central, he served on the Course of Study of Chemistry for Secondary Schools (1928) and Secondary School Science Curriculum Committee (1942-1943). He also established the Muncie Technical Society in 1945 and helped create the Edward Zetterberg Glacial Rock Garden dedicated at Muncie Central High School in 1973. In addition to teaching, Zetterberg also worked at the Muncie Sewage Treatment Plant as a part-time chemist from 1943 to 1955, and as a full-time chemist from 1955 to 1966.

This collection was received by Archives and Special Collections as a records donation from Edward Zetterberg on 2003/01/01. Donations were added on 2003/10/01, 2004/05/01, 2006/12/01, 2010/12/03, and 2013/07/13 on behalf of Edward Zetterberg by Mary Alice Lanning.
