Historical Note

The Humpback Barn Festival began in 1990, showcasing local artists and poets in and around Muncie, Indiana. Incorporated on April 23, 1992, the Humpback Barn Festival of Poetry and Art further pledged its dedication to exposing local talent. The group worked with the Muncie Artists’ Guild, the 401 Poetry Group, the Ball State Faculty Creative Arts Grant, and other devoted individuals to bring attention to local artistic and poetic talent. The organization held the Humpback Barn Festival annually in October, which involved the exhibition of art and poetry as well larger exhibits that were contained in separate homes and buildings in Muncie. The festival has drawn crowds of over 200 people and 30 poets, and various dance troops and area musicians have performed in the festival as well.
