Fran Parkison library curriculum collection

 Collection
Identifier: MSS-247

Scope and Contents

The collection contains a 35-week library curriculum, as well as sample lesson plans for kindergarten through sixth grades. Teaching tools on such library topics as the Dewey Decimal system, alphabetical ordering, parts of a book, and fiction and nonfiction books are also in the collection. Teaching resources provide information on discipline, objectives and competencies, and the importance of reading to a child. As well as teaching information, Parkison also included ideas and samples of games to learn about the library environment.

The administration folders hold a sampling of library reports, handbooks, a library bill of rights, and library rules and procedures.

Included in the collection are materials from famous children’s author Mark Harshman. Harshman was invited to Parkison’s elementary school to speak in 1997, and the collection comprises correspondence, photos from the day, biographical information, book sales and purchases of his book by students, and miscellaneous materials concerning his visit.
