Biographical Note

Helen B. Schwartz was born in New York in 1919. She graduated Hunter College High School and attended Wellesley College, graduating in 1941. She also attended Julliard School of Music and George Washington University. In 1940, Helen married Martin D. Schwartz of Muncie, Indiana. The couple resided in Muncie for a short time, then moved to Virginia while Mr. Schwartz served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, they returned to Muncie where they would remain.

The Schwartzes had four daughters: Judith, Susan, Deborah, and Joan. For many years, Helen Schwartz served as the Vice President of Schwartz Paper Company, a local corporation founded by her husband. Schwartz was an active member of many philanthropic and Jewish organizations, including the Muncie Temple Beth-El Board of Directors, the World Business Council, and the Young Presidents Organization. She was also a member of the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, where she served as the organization's vice president, and a founding member of Hoosier Bounty. Mrs. Schwartz passed away in 2007 at the age of 87.
