This collection includes papers and photographs from the Deeter family in Muncie, Indiana ranging from 1920s to 1980s regarding business, correspondence, education, organizations, and publications. Many of the letters are written from Joseph Bosman to Ida Forrest and reveal his life in World War II service from 1942 to 1944.

Biographical Note

The Deeter family were residents of South Bluffton (though some is listed as Eaton) Indiana. Ida Forrest Bosman Deeter, the family matriarch, was born sometime in 1887 and married Bert Deeter. Together they had two sons: Harry H. Deeter and Joseph Deeter. On October 6, 1941, Ida was notified by the Muncie Chapter American Red Cross that her son Jospeh Bosman had "entered the service of our country" serving in the Army Tank Corps.

Joseph Deeter was born in Eaton on April 24, 1917 and a graduate of Eaton High School. After his service, he began his career as a barber, working at Main Street Barber Shop before opening Deeter's West Side Barber Shop in 1951. He passed away on May 20, 1980.
