Administrative History
In early 1986, Millard Fuller visited Muncie’s Eden United Church of Christ to promote Habitat for Humanity International. Muncie resident Sharon Brown was in attendance and was inspired by Fuller’s speech; she chose to go to a work camp in Americus, Georgia along with four other Muncie residents at the Habitat for Humanity Headquarters. On July 20th, 1986, a group of 23 residents attended the dedication in Lafayette, Indiana, including President Jimmy Carter. Board and slate officers were selected on September, 30 1986. Habitat for Humanity selects Muncie and Delaware County families based on housing need and ability to pay on a mortgage. A majority of families selected are long-time residents of Delaware county, frequently even second- or third-generation residents, and are unable to afford a home in the current housing market.
