The first Muncie Endurathon was held at the Prairie Creek Reservoir in 1980. Fifty triathletes participated in the first race, and the average number of participants has grown to 600-700, peaking in 2001 with 1200 registered participants. By 2009, the Endurathon was listed as the second oldest traithlon--just behind the Hawaii Ironman. In 2011, the Muncie Endurathon became the Ironman Muncie 70.3, and continues to hold the event at the Prairie Creek Reservoir.
