Scope and Contents
This collection includes originals and photocopies of correspondence from noted authors and scholars such as Arthur Miller, Edward Albee, Gore Vidal, John Kenneth Galbraith, John Updike, Studs Terkel, and Tom Wolfe from 1998-2004. Also included is a manuscript copy of an interview conducted by George with Thom Steinbeck, son of John Steinbeck, and George's book, The Moral Philosophy of John Steinbeck.
Conditions Governing Access
This collection is open for research. Correspondence with original signatures has been restricted. Researchers may access photocopies of originals. Contact archivist with requests to access restricted material.
Legal title, copyright, and literary rights reside with Archives and Special Collections, Ball State University Libraries, Muncie, IN. All requests to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted to Archives and Special Collections.
Stephen K. George was a Professor of English at Brigham Young University, Idaho. He has published some 30 articles and book reviews in journals and books such as Steinbeck Studies, Steinbeck Yearbook, and Oxford Encyclopedia of American Literature. He has also edited three books about John Steinbeck. Known as a Steinbeck scholar and literary critic, George was well known in the academic community. He founded the John Steinbeck Society of America (JSSA) by bringing together two different American journals and academic societies into one literary group. The Society works with the long-standing John Steinbeck Society of Japan (JSSJ).
