Biographical Note

Jakob Oster was born November 22, 1906 in northwest Germany. Sometime between World War I and World War II, he emigrated to the United States and settled in Flemington, New Jersey. He met his wife, Ida Kullmer, while living in New Jersey. Ida was also a German emigrant; she was born on July 23, 1916 in Bremen, Germany and moved to the United States when she was a child. Jakob and Ida had one child: a daughter named Diana.

After World War II, Jakob remained in contact with his family and friends in the North Rhine-Westphalia state in Germany, which was under British control at the time. He frequently sent C.A.R.E. packages, cigarettes, flour, and other goods to his relatives. He also made efforts to locate his brother, Walter, who was reported missing in action. His efforts were successful, and Walter returned home to his wife in Heppendorf in 1947.

Jakob died in 1972 and Ida on July 19, 2014 in Muncie, Indiana.
