Railroad

This collection includes essays, articles and other research material created or collected by Arthur Andrew Olson III ranging from 2009 to 2016 regarding the lineage and life of David Kilgore (1804-1879) and other related topics in Delaware County and Indiana history including the settlement and relocation of Native American peoples, state and national politics, and railroads during the period between Indiana statehood and the era of Reconstruction following the United States Civil War.

This collection includes thirteen daybooks (1923-1937), four daily report binders (1936-1940), one cashbook (1923-1932), and one checkbook with stubs (1933-1936). The daybooks include hour by hour accounts of Kirchner’s activities beginning with his time in Lima and Bellevue, Ohio, 1920s and early 1930s and ending with his time in Muncie (after 1937).

This collection includes publications and newspaper clippings ranging from 1941 to 1981 regarding interurban and railroad transportation. The publications include journals from the Electric Railfans' Association and the Canadian Railroad Historical Association, and the Canadian Rail journal. There are other railroad-related magazines in the collection, and a book: The Electric Interurban Railway in America.

This collection includes publications and artifacts from East Coast railroad companies (Long Island, New York Central, Norfolk and Western, Penn Central, and Seaboard) between 1903- 1973. Majority of the publications are from 1956-1973.
